My Story

Four generations on the same road

My great-grandfather broke the first field on our place in 1341. My son will be the fourth Kander to learn to handle a team on that same lane.

I took over Kander & Sons Mill in Bywater in the spring of 1414. We were 9 people then. We're 34 now, and every one of those wages goes to somebody who buys their flour and their ale in Bywater.

I ran for the moot in 1418 after the Brandywine washed out the low road and nobody in Michel Delving could tell us when it would be mended. I chaired the flood-moot that got it rebuilt, under purse, a year early.

My wife Rose teaches the middle forms at the Michel Delving school. Our boy Sam is 3, which means most of my weekends happen in creeks now. That's fine by me.

Finish the Brandywine irrigation works and fund the upstream storage study. Our growers can't plan a season on a maybe.

Nine dead in six years on the stretch between Bywater and Bree. The widening has been surveyed to death. Build it.

Keep the healing house open

The Michel Delving healing house sat dark 41 nights last year. Green Hill Country needs healers who stay, and a standing rota so the door is never barred.

Work in the Iron Hills

A ninety-day clock on any charter the moot must grant a smithy or a delving, and a lot less patience for vetoes stamped in Mordor.

Rangers on the East Road

Uruk-hai raiders hit four farms past the Marish this spring and the nearest Ranger was the better part of an hour out. Fund the watch.

Pipe-weed quotas, forge caps, bow registries, all of it drafted in Barad-dûr by folk who have never crossed the Brandywine. I'll back the Premier every time she pushes back.

Nominations get decided by the handful of folk who bothered to take out a token. It costs about the price of two pints a year, and it's the only way your voice counts when we vote on the nomination day.
